Bio

Sig Paulson plays Outlaw Americana music, an amalgamation of American folk, country and blues. Through these three ingredients, along with insight and humor he fashions original songs that tell stories of people, places and struggles from past to present. The classic solo Americana artist, Sig presents his lyrically creative songs through years of experience on 6 and 12 string guitar and harmonica.

Our audience loved you! Good to see you playing for an audience that really loved your music and stories. So many people stopped and told me how much they enjoyed not only your songs but the sing-a-longs of old classics that you played and encouraged them to join in on. What a good entertainer you are!

In April of 2025 Sig released Sunnyslope Moonshine his 4th full length album. His three prior releases were Totem Pole released in 2009, Tangled In My Roots from 2005 and Movies and Magazines released in 2002. Sig has received  songwriting awards from Tumbleweed Music Festival 2017 and 2023, Song of the year in West Coast Songwriters Portland Chapter 2020, Portland Songwriters Association Best Performing Songwriter Competition multiple times, Gig Harbor Folk Festival 2004 and Mary Hill Winerie’s songwriter’s competition.

Sig Paulson’s songs are filled with colors and images that are sharp and well defined, as are the characters in the songs, bringing everything into perspective. Sig’s voice is clean and expressive, and he sings with conviction. There are many truths in Paulson’s songs, but there is also a lot of whimsy, which helps make his compositions interesting over repeated listening.

In the fall of 1972, a young Airman 1st Class Paulson took a trip from Castle Air Force Base to Berkley to see John Prine perform. Prine’s humor and stories of everyday people and events captured his imagination. The songs were like concise little movies bringing clarity, empathy and emotion out in Sig. The theater was gone. He felt more like he was back home listening to a friend tell him personal stories that opened his head and heart. That was the moment Sig knew that he wanted people to feel that same way through his own songs. From my first listing to “Parking Lot Ponies” by Sig Paulson, I have been “On the bus!” Then you hear some more of his catchy, well-crafted tunes… “We Got Rain” comes to mind, and you are a true believer. Sig has such a great energy, vibe and connection with his audience and the songs have timeless imagery. This northwest renegade troubadour is the REAL DEAL!

Sig is currently writing songs for a fifth studio album. He is also beginning to record live performances in hopes of capturing solid performances with energy and heart for a live release in the future.
